Emporium Woman Pleads Guilty in Erie

An Emporium woman has pleaded guilty to charges filed after the man she was with allegedly robbed an Erie bank back in January. 29-year-old Jessica Grovanz was charged with providing false identification and possession of a controlled substance. She was with 40-year-old Aaron Carpenter of Erie, who is accused of going into a Citizens Bank branch on Peach Street and sliding the teller a note demanding cash. Drug Suspect Waives Hearing

One more of the people charged in the New Year’s Eve sweep by the McKean County Drug Task Force has waived his preliminary hearing. 33-year-old Edward Hull of Smethport is accused of selling prescription morphine pills. Bank Robbery Suspect Nabbed

State police have a arrested a Cattaraugus County man for a bank robbery that happened in 2011. 33-year-old William Delaney of Deleven is charged in connection to the robbery of the M&T Bank in the Village of Delevan on June 3, 2011. One Dead, Two Hurt in Route 446 Crash

A woman is dead after her car collided with a tractor-trailer this morning on Route 446 near the Pennsylvania/New York State line. State police say 26-year-old Lindsay Schmit of Grand Island, New York, was traveling north on Route 446 in Eldred Township, just north of the New York State line, at 6:15 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, her Chevy Malibu spun, crossed the center line and traveled into a tractor-trailer. Schmit was pronounced dead at the scene by McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill. One passenger, 23-year-old Christopher Johnson, suffered severe injuries and is being treated at a Buffalo hospital. The second passenger, a toddler, was thrown from the car and is also being treated for severe injuries in a Buffalo hospital. The truck driver, 53-year-old Kevin Padlo of Olean, was not hurt. Kane-based state police were assisted by troopers from Montoursville and DuBois as well as the Eldred Township Fire Department and EMS, Portville Fire Department and EMS, Medic 10 from Ole

Fatal Crash Near PA/NY Line

UPDATE: A woman is dead after her car collided with a tractor-trailer this morning on Route 446 near the Pennsylvania/New York State line. Two other people in the car – a man and a 2-year-old boy – are both hospitalized in Buffalo in critical condition. Police have not released their names yet. The truck driver was not hurt. We’ll have more information as it becomes available. ~~~ We haven’t gotten any official information on a fatal crash near the PA/NY state line this morning, but we are aware of it. Accused Bradford Burglar Waives Hearings

The Bradford man accused of breaking into two churches, a school and the Farm Family Restaurant has waived his preliminary hearings today. 19-year-old Derek Steck is charged with burglary and related offenses for breaking into St. Bernard’s Church, the First Presbyterian Church, The Learning Center and The Farm back in January. Toomey: Changing Cheese Names is Rididulous

If the European Union has its way you won’t be able to buy asiago, parmesan and muenster cheese anymore in American grocery stores. Actually, the cheese would be available – but with a different name. Senators Pat Toomey and Chuck Schumer are urging the US Department of Agriculture to fight the initiative by the EU that would prohibit American dairy farmers for using the names the union says are “geographical indicators” and can only be appropriately displayed on products made in certain areas of Europe Italy. For example, true parmesan cheese can only be made in Parma, Italy. Toomey says the new guideline are ridiculous and threaten Pennsylvania jobs. The National Milk Producers Association, International Dairy Foods Association, U.S. Dairy Export Council, American Farm Bureau Federation, Kraft, and others support Toomey and Schumer’s efforts. SUV Thief Gets Jail Time

The man convicted of stealing a Seneca Nation Marshal’s SUV and damaging it has been sentenced to a year in jail. 23-year-old Kevin Beaver of Salamanca was found guilty by a jury in January in connection to the May 2013 incident. Beaver stole the Chevy Tahoe while marshals were responding to a call in Kill Buck. He and another man took the SUV to Old Route 17, where they met up with two other men, then took it gravel pits in the Town of Red House and damaged the vehicle. Beaver must also pay restitution. Witnesses Intimidation Charges Bound to Court

Charges against the Bradford man accused of choking his girlfriend and kneeing her in the face, and then to trying to intimidate her into not testifying against him, have been bound to court. Axle Tankersley is accused of calling the victim 40 times from the McKean County Jail before the number was blocked. According to papers filed in District Judge Dominic Cercone’s office, Tankersley told the victim to not show up for court, to lie about what happened and to make up a story about being too drunk to remember. On October 5 Tankersley allegedly smashed windows in the victim’s car and then assaulted her to the point that she blacked out. She was treated at BRMC for severe facial injuries. Tanker Truck Rolls Over

A tanker truck rolled over in a crash at 6 o’clock this morning on Wilcox Clermont Road at its intersection with Clermont Road. Police say the tanker driven by 59-year-old Robert Coccimiglio of DuBois was turning onto Wilcox Clermont Road went it rolled onto its side, which caused disabling damage. No one was hurt. Indecent Assault Charges Bound to Court

Indecent assault charges against a Bradford man have been bound to court following a preliminary hearing in District Judge Dominic Cercone’s office. 65-year-old Charles Johnson is accused of kissing and having inappropriate contact with a girl younger than 13 last month. Police say they filed charges of indecent assault, one felony and one misdemeanor, after corroborating the girl’s statement. Johnson is free on $15,000 bail. PSP: Man Tried to Buy Gun Illegally

A Duncansville, PA, man is accused of trying to buy a gun illegally from an Emporium store. Police say 43-year-old Todd Marlin tried to buy the gun despite being prohibited from buying firearms. The gun dealer at Wheaton Gun Supply refused to sell the gun to Marlin and contacted state police. He’s scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 27. Heroin Seized in Olean Drug Bust

$1,000 worth of heroin, along with drug paraphernalia, marijuana and cash were seized in a raid of an Olean house late last night by the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force. The task force searched 309 North Sixth Street, where they found the heroin, cash and paraphernalia, as well as marijuana and packaging material. 22-year-old Joshua Small of Buffalo and 32-year-old Justin Vreeland of Olean are each charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. A St. Bonaventure University student is facing assault charges. Sheriff’s deputies say 18-year-old Danielle Devole assaulted another person late Friday night in Allegany. Fatal Oil Tank Accident

A Clarendon man is dead after an oil tank accident this morning in on Irvine Road in Brokenstraw Township. State police say 26-year-old Nikolai Briggs was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say Briggs was welding on top of a tank when his torch caused vapor in the tank to ignite and explode, throwing him about 60 feet from the tank. City of Bradford Police on Monday looked into disturbances on Walker Avenue and East Corydon Street, and harassment on Lorana Avenue. Toomey Working Toward Alzheimer's Cure

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) is working to advance a cure for Alzheimer’s through a bill that would direct proceeds from postage stamp sales to fund research on the cruel illness. The bipartisan legislation would instruct the United States Postal Service to issue and sell an Alzheimer's Disease Research Semi-Postal Stamp. Proceeds from the sale of these stamps would be transferred to the National Institutes of Health to fund Alzheimer’s research. Sen. Toomey joins bill sponsor Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and fellow cosponsors Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). Man Facing Child Porn Charges

A St. Marys man is accused of viewing pornography with children as young as 3 years old engaging in sexual acts. The state attorney general’s office has filed charges against 58-year-old Ronald Dill after learning a computer at his home was on a peer-to-peer network sharing child pornography. A laptop computer and external hard drive had more than 30 video files with child pornography on them. Dill is charged with 20 counts of possession of child pornography, seven counts of distributing child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communication facility.
