Scarnati: Small Games of Chance
Reporting Requirement Delayed

Image
The Small Games of Chance reporting requirement for local clubs and organizations has been delayed until 2015, according to Senator Joe Scarnati (R-25). Scarnati explained that The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue has announced that Club licensees and eligible organizations will not be required to submit electronic annual reports to the Department by February 1, 2014. “I am pleased that the Department of Revenue has recognized the need to allow local organizations more time to learn the updated reporting requirements,” Scarnati stated. “Delaying reporting requirements at this time will allow our small nonprofit organizations to be able to focus more on their charitable missions and services.” Scarnati said that in November, legislation making changes to the Small Games of Chance Law was passed by the General Assembly and signed by the Governor. The updates took a significant step to raise the thresholds for reporting requirements, while also allowing organizations to keep more

Even Colder Temperatures on the Way

Image
We still have one more bitterly cold night to get through before we get a bit of a break tomorrow – but that break will be short-lived. Although the temperature will be in the 30s tomorrow, the wind chill factor will make it feel like 12 below at times. And that’s the good news. By Monday night, temperatures will plunge to 15 below – without the wind chill factor. The National Weather Service says Tuesday’s high temperature will be around 1 below. By Thursday, the temperature should jump up into the 30s again. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Local Oil, Gas Producers Want
Board to Re-Consider Changes

Image
Local oil and gas producers, along with other business and community leaders, met with DCED’s Carolyn Newhouse today about the danger of changes to regulations that would be detrimental to the industry, as well as the local economy. The Environmental Quality Board is considering changes meant to further regulate drillers in Marcellus and Utica shales. But shallow well drillers say not only would it be too costly for them to comply with the regulations, it’s not necessary. The local producers are asking the board to allow the shallow wells to operate under the regulations in place before Act 13, and to tell DEP to apply changes to deep wells only.
