George Schaming

George F. Schaming, 85, of 26 Constitution Ave. Bradford, passed away, Saturday, March 31st, 2012 at the Hamot Medical Center in Erie.

Born August 20, 1926 in Lewis Run, he was a son of the late Walter B. and Susan M. (Bauer) Schaming Sr. He was a 1944 graduate of St. Bernard High School.

On May 17, 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy served two years during WWII and was discharged July 12, 1944.

On October 18, 1947 in Limestone, he married Mary Lou Fox Schaming who died October 2, 1995. On December 27, 1996 in Niagara Falls NY, he married Joyce (Piersimoni- Smith) Schaming who survives.

After the service he worked as a cabinet maker in Rochester NY, later as a Sales Manager at the Boylston Chevrolet Dealership in Bradford. He became District Sales Manager for Chrysler in Pittsburgh. He returned to Bradford and started Quick Way Car Wash which he operated for over 30 years. He was President of Tarport Enterprise Inc. and Vice President of Bisett Building Center.

He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and served as lector and commentator for many years. He enjoyed building miniature carnival rides and later donated his entire collection to the McKean County Historical Society. He was a member of the Allegheny Mountain Engine Association, the Southern Tier Engine Association and the Wellsville-Coldsprings Power Museum.

Mr. Schaming enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting and fishing.

Surviving in addition to his wife Joyce, is one son, Michael J. Schaming of Bradford, one step daughter, Amy Smith of Erie, two step sons, Grant (June) Smith of Bradford, and Kevin (Markie) Troutman of Bloomsburg, five sisters, Mary Lou (Tom) Sowers of Bradford, Joan Holler of Twinsburg OH, Suzanne (Fran) Healy of Pottstown PA and Bernadine (Frank) McCusker of Washington WV, two brothers, Kenneth (Pat) Schaming of Bradford, and W. Bernard (Betsy) Schaming of Hadenfield NJ, three granddaughters: Jennifer Schaming, Michelle Schaming, and Tara Schaming, 6 step grandchildren: Randi Smith, Laci Smith, Maddi Hallock, Brittany Clark, Kara Holsinger, and Grant Smith III, one great grandchild and 6 step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Imelda Luethy and Kay Foster, and one daughter in law Debra Shick Schaming.

Friends will be received on Wednesday April 4, 2012 from 10:00am to 11:00am in St. Francis Church at 11:00am a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Stephen Collins, pastor as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
